Board Opening for Hospital Provider Fee Oversight and Advisory Board

"The Department of Health Care Policy and Financing is seeking an individual that is a current health care consumer who would be willing to volunteer their time to fill a position on the Hospital Provider Fee Oversight and Advisory Board (OAB).  Familiarity with Medicaid programs is helpful, but not required.

The OAB's responsibility is to work with the Department and the Medical Services Board to develop the hospital provider fee model, monitor the implementation of the bill, help with preparation of annual reports on this program, and ensure that the Medicaid and Child Health Plan Plus (CHP+) eligibility expansions are implemented as intended.

The OAB meets the fourth Tuesday of most months.  While Board participation is on a volunteer basis, expenses for travel and other board related items may be reimbursed.  If you would like to apply for the OAB health care consumer seat, please visit the Governor's Office of Boards and Commissions web page and download the application.

If you have any questions, please contact Nancy Dolson at (303) 866-3698."  [Source:  HCPF]

CHARITABLE DEDUCTION - ACTION REQUESTED

The Senate Finance Committee is looking to reform the Nation’s Tax Code.  Chairman Max Baucus (D-MT) and Ranking Member Orrin Hatch (R-UT) have informed each senator of their intention to pursue tax reform beginning with a “blank slate” and asking them to justify adding back in any deductions, credits, and preferences based on three criteria:  that they (1) help grow the economy, (2) make the tax code fairer, or (3) effectively promote other important policy objectives, as well as to submit any other ideas they may have regarding a tax overhaul.

One deduction that is on the table for consideration to be cut or limited is the Charitable Deduction. Eliminating the deduction may have a dramatic impact on your clinic budget, as some people may decide not to donate or donate less without this deduction.

It is critical that you take a moment and write a letter to your Senate members explaining that losing this deduction would negatively impact the work at your clinic and the work of non-profits around the country.  The NAFC has drafted a letter on this topic for you to place on your letterhead, sign and send to your elected officials.  Please note, in addition to discussing the impact of limiting/eliminating the charitable deduction will have on your clinic, it also includes language that reflects how this limitation will hurt non-profits as a whole.  Staff feels very strongly that it is critical to identify ourselves as strong members of the non-profit sector by joining our voices with others in this arena.

This issue is of CRITICAL IMPORTANCE to the non-profit community as a whole and as a large part of the safety net community, the NAFC is asking that you act RIGHT AWAY.

What Can You Do?
The fastest way to get information to your Senators is to either send an email or fax a letter to them.  The NAFC has drafted a sample email/letter on this for you to place on your letterhead, sign and send to your Member.  Click here to download a copy of the letter.  Click here to find a web form to email, along with fax number and mailing address for your Senator.

**If you would like to email or use the web form and there is not the ability to add the letter on your letterhead, please copy and paste the body of the letter into the comment box with your contact information.

When you have sent your message please update the NAFC offices via email at info@nafcclinics.org. [Source:  NAFC]

WEBINAR: Payment and Delivery System Reform: It's All About the Data, States!

Tuesday, July 30th, 2:30-4:00pm (EDT)
Register Here.

"The National Academy for State Health Policy (NASHP) is pleased to announce "Payment and Delivery System Reform: It's All About the Data, States!" For states and their partners seeking a better integrated delivery system through multi-payer reform initiatives, effective use of data is the foundation, the "building" itself, and roof above. Easier envisioned than done, data can help participants in multi-payer initiatives offer constructive feedback on performance to providers, distribute rewards in value-based payment systems, and hold system participants accountable for costs and quality of services delivered. This webinar will explore the types of data multi-payer initiatives need to succeed, where states can get data, and how to use it. It will also highlight approaches to using various types of data from three leading states: Vermont, Tennessee, and Maine.

This webinar is the third in a multi-part NASHP series to help states that are ready to take the next step in thinking about multi-payer approaches to payment and delivery reform, moving beyond the medical home. Previous webinars in the series can be viewed here. Following the webinar, a small group of participating states will be invited to join in a virtual consultation with our featured faculty and project staff around the issues raised in this webinar.

If you have questions regarding the webinar or consultation opportunity, please feel free to contact Mike Stanek (mstanek@nashp.org)." [Source:  NASHP]

HHS Launches Health Insurance Marketplace Educational Tools, Call Center

"The Obama administration on 6/24/13 kicked off the Health Insurance Marketplace education effort with the relaunch of a new, consumer-focused HealthCare.gov website and the 24-hours-a-day consumer call center to help Americans prepare for open enrollment and ultimately sign up for private health insurance.  The new tools will help Americans understand their choices and select coverage that best suits their needs when open enrollment in the new Health Insurance Marketplace begins October 1.

'The new website and toll-free number have a simple mission:  to make sure every American who needs health coverage has the information they need to make choices that are right for themselves and their families, or their businesses,' said Health Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius.

For Spanish speaking consumers, CuidadoDeSalud.gov will also be updated to match HealthCare.gov's new consumer focus.

Between now and the start of open enrollment, the Marketplace call center will provide educational information and, beginning October 1, 2013, will assist consumers with application completion and plan selection.  In addition to English and Spanish, the call center provides assistance in more than 150 languages through an interpretation and translation service.  Customer service representatives are available for assistance via a toll-free number at 1-800-318-2596 and hearing impaired callers using TTY/TDD technology can dial 1-855-889-4325 for assistance."
