PHI Survey: Leveraging Mobile Phones to Engage Safety Net Patients

"The Public Health Institute has received a grant from the Commonwealth Fund to conduct a national assessment of the current status of deployment of mobile technology within the safety net in better serving the needs of their populations.  As health systems adopt more patient-centered care models under health care reforms, improved understanding among providers as to how mobile technology may be used effectively is required.

The survey will collect data from provider organizations on their use of mobile phones in engaging and better serving their clients' care needs.  Patient engagement, which involves actions that people can take to improve their health, can benefit from tools such as mobile phones and the information and other resources they provide to support a patient's motivation to change their behaviors in ways that can lead to improved health outcomes.

The survey should take no longer than 15 minutes to complete.  The participation of organizations that do not currently use mobile technology is also encouraged.  The data collected through the survey will provide evidence-based findings that promote understanding among providers as to how mobile technology may be used more effectively as well as to develop recommendations that advance health solutions in the field.
