"This Program Assistance Letter (PAL) supplements Program Information Notice (PIN) 2011-02, Free Clinics Federal Tort Claims Act (FTCA) Program Policy Guide, and provides guidance on the Calendar Year (CY) 2015 deeming application process for medical malpractice liability coverage under the provisions of section 224(o) of the PHS Act and the Federal Tort Claims Act (FTCA). This PAL contains instructions for free clinics on how to apply to HRSA for medical malpractice coverage under the FTCA for CY 2015 on behalf of their volunteer free clinic health care professionals, board members, officers, employees, and/or contractors.
Although the process isn’t exactly the same for free clinics compared to FQHCs, some technical assistance resources have been posted that may also be helpful to the process for free clinics." [Source: HRSA]

Family Medicine Cares USA – Grant Opportunity for Free Clinics
“Launched in 2011, Family Medicine Cares USA is helping to establish new Free Clinics to care for the uninsured in areas of need across the United States. Grants are provided to new clinics for purchase of tangible items needed to open their doors, such as exam tables, EHR systems, and medical equipment.
We are pleased to announce that in 2014 the eligibility criteria will be expanded to include existing Free Clinics. Family Medicine Cares USA also gives AAFP members, residents, and students the opportunity to volunteer their time and talents. Deadline for the grant application is March 17, 2014. Family Medicine Cares USA is designed to bring us together to help address this overwhelming need and to bring visibility to the caring nature and importance of family medicine.

AMA Healthy Communities Funding: Diabetes Projects for Free Clinics
"The American Medical Association Foundation is accepting Letters of Interest for its 2013 Healthy Communities/Healthy America through March 15, 2013. This year, the program will address diabetes management and education projects for free clinic patients nationwide.
The foundation supports the efforts of physicians and other volunteers working at physician-led free clinics to provide quality, affordable health care. Healthy Community grants, which range between $10,000 and $25,000, support program-related expenses at clinics in communities where there is little government funding or support." 2013 Healthy Communities/Healthy America Grant Opportunity
The American Medical Foundation supports the efforts of physicians and other volunteers working at free clinics to provide quality, affordable health care. The program awards $10,000-$25,000 grants to physician-led free clinics. To date, we have awarded over $1 million to 56 free clinics across the country.
The 2013 Healthy Communities/Healthy America program will address Diabetes management and education projects for free clinic patients.
The AMA Foundation is currently accepting Letters of Inquiry (LOI) for this program. LOIs must be received by March 15, 2013. Download the LOI form Word File, which includes detailed instructions. Guidelines to request funding from the AMA Foundation are located here.
