Asian Smokers’ Quitline
"The Asian Smokers’ Quitline is a free nationwide Asian-language quit smoking service operated by the Moores Cancer Center at the University of California, San Diego. The Quitline offers self-help materials, referral to local programs, one-on-one telephone counseling to quit smoking, and a free two-week starter kit of nicotine patches. Safety Net Clinic Week, AUGUST 19-23, 2013!
To jump start preparations for Safety Net Clinic Week 2013, ClinicNET and the Colorado Rural Health Center sent out “Save the Date” postcards to Colorado's Congressional delegation, State legislators and other key Colorado community members.
Highlights from last year's Safety Net Clinic
Week included 14 clinic site-visits with elected officials, governmental staffers, and candidates for office. 5 clinic open houses, and 5 governmental proclamations! Clinics that participated last year said that site-visits and open houses were a great way to
build relationships, increase
awareness of services, highlight the
importance of clinics, and acknowledge partnerships in the community.

Introducing Our New Program Assistant!
ClinicNET welcomes our new Program Assistant, Johanna Gelderman! Johanna is a recent graduate of the University of Wisconsin - Madison, receiving a bachelor's degree in International Studies with minors in Global Health and Business. During her time as a student she worked at the University of Wisconsin System Administration in the HR department, assisting the office and the website development team. Additionally, she worked with an international nonprofit organization that focuses on community health in Sri Lanka and Nepal. She headed up their website revamp, aided in event planning, and performed office management duties. A Minnesota native, Johanna is excited to spend her spare time outdoors enjoying all that Colorado has to offer. The next Health Equity Learning Series Lunch, Health equity and the Social Determinants of Health, will take place Thursday, July 25th, 2013.
The speaker will be Adewale Troutman, MD, Director, Public Health Practice Program, University of South Florida and President, American Public Health Association. For more than 40 years, Dr. Troutman has studied and worked to advance health equity and to eliminate racism and other social injustices. Founder of the nation's first Center for Health Equity at Metro Louisville Department of Public Health and Wellness, Dr. Troutman is featured in the documentary, Unnatural Causes: Is Inequality Making Us Sick? Please plan to attend and hear Dr. Troutman's insights about how social determinants of health - where people live, learn, work and play - affect health, and what we can do to address these factors.
