Second Edition of the Health Literacy Toolkit

“The recently released AHRQ Health Literacy Universal Precautions Toolkit, Second Edition can help primary care practices reduce the complexity of health care, increase patient understanding of health information and enhance support for patients of all health literacy levels. 

Only 12 percent of U.S. adults have the health literacy skills needed to manage the demands of our complex health care system, and anyone's ability to absorb and use health information can be compromised by stress or illness. Experts recommend assuming that everyone may have difficulty understanding in order to create an environment in which all patients can thrive. AHRQ's toolkit includes downloads like patient action plans, links to trainings and videos and guides for how to improve your practice.

Colorado Health Literacy Conference, October 2

“The Colorado Health Literacy Coalition is hosting the Colorado Health Literacy Conference, October 2, Bruce Schroffel Auditorium, University of Colorado Hospital, Anschutz Medical Campus. The Colorado Health Literacy Coalition is a collaborative effort between Children’s Hospital Colorado, Colorado Hospital Association, Health Sciences Library – Anschutz Medical Campus, National Library of Medicine, Saint Joseph Hospital, Spring Institute, University of Colorado – Colorado Springs, and University of Colorado health – University of Colorado Hospital.

This conference focuses on how health literacy can improve health communication and patient/client outcomes. Attendees will leave with a better understanding of health literacy and specific strategies on how to improve written and spoken communication with clients in a variety of settings.
