"The Colorado Clinical and Translational Sciences Institute (CCTSI) Community Engagement & Research and the Partnership of Academicians and Communities in Translation (PACT) are currently accepting Partnership Development applications for funding.

This funding opportunity is open to new or potential community and academic partners who are interested in a Partnership Development project...

• dedicated to relationship building; 
• exploration of shared areas of interest; 
• and the development of a research project focused on T3/T4 Translational Research, which includes research evaluating the translation of evidence-based interventions or practices into real world, clinical and community settings.

New HIT and PCMH training opportunities

“The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) and the University of Colorado Department Family Medicine are launching two new e-learning training modules for primary care practices. These modules are available for primary care practices in Colorado to use at no cost, and they provide valuable learning opportunities and Continuing Medical Education credits:

• HIT e-learning Modules: Includes four modules, each taking about 30 minutes to complete. You will receive AAFP CME credits for completing all four modules. 
• PCMH e-Learning Modules: Includes 12 modules, each taking about one hour to complete. You will receive 12 AAFP CME credits for completing all 12 modules.

CU College of Nursing - Making a Difference in Obesity Across the Lifespan

To help examine and assess the impact of obesity across the lifespan, the CU College of Nursing, Office of Lifelong Learning is hosting a program with faculty from the College of Nursing's Division of Women, Children's and Family Health for an engaging afternoon focused on the global perspective, using technology and motivational interviewing to engage families in healthier lifestyles, latest research findings on innovative approaches, and strategies for improving care for populations at risk for obesity.  The program will be followed by a reception with light food and beverages.  Click here for more information and to register.

Message from CO Colorectal Screening Program

"Dear Partners,

It is with great pleasure that we can send this note to you announcing that the Colorado Colorectal Screening Program has successfully competed for funding for a three year grant that allows us to substantially restore activities of the Program. We have received a 2.86 million dollar award for 9 months, starting October 2012 to support endoscopic screening, including some treatment and navigation support, as well as, additional activities in systems change to support the use of high sensitivity fecal occult blood testing (FOBT) for colorectal cancer screening, and to start improving our partnerships with other chronic disease prevention programs.

Contingent on the state budget, we will receive $3.82 million in each of the following two years.  While this doesn't meet our previous funding levels, it is a step in the right direction to provide this important cancer screening for medically underserved Coloradans. Please share the good news with your screening and treatment providers!

The Program will holding a series of conference calls in early September with the details about the grant and will be contacting clinics directly regarding the allocations of screens and participation in FOBT systems changes. The Program will be contacting you and your service partners in the next few weeks to execute new memorandums of understanding for this Fiscal Year 2013 grant. We plan to make these contracts for the 3 year grant period from October 1, 2012 to June 30, 2015.

Thank you for your continued partnership and effort to help us provide endoscopic screens to about 1850 people by the end of May 2013.

Levitt Distinguished Speaker Series

Undergraduate Pre-Health Program (UPP)

University of Colorado Denver – Anschutz Medical Campus & Kaiser Permanente
Kaiser Permanente Colorado partners with the University of Colorado Denver - Anschutz Medical Campus – Office of Diversity and Inclusion to manage the Undergraduate Pre-health Program (UPP); which provides summer internships for undergraduate students interested in pursuing the health care professions of medicine, nursing, pharmacy, research, and nutrition.

The program offers a paid internship for 10-12 weeks of the summer, education & training for 2 weeks of the summer to focus on health disparities that disproportionately affect the community, research opportunities, and access to simulation and cadaver labs.  Interns also attend Saturday Academies throughout the school year that included an array of topics from test preparation, and mock interviews, to writing personal statements required for application to the professional schools.
