New heart attack awareness resources available in Spanish

"The HHS Office on Women’s Health (OWH) recently launched its new heart attack awareness campaign targeting Spanish-speaking women age 50 and over. The “Haga La Llamada, ¡No Pierda Tiempo!” campaign builds on OWH’s successful “Make the Call, Don’t Miss a Beat” campaign, that began in 2011. The new Spanish-language campaign aims to educate and empower Spanish-speaking women to call 9-1-1 when they experience any of the seven symptoms of a heart attack and to do the same for their mothers, sisters and friends. New CDC Sodium Resource Available in Spanish

"CDC recently released “Controlling Hypertension by Learning to Control Sodium Intake: a Fotonovela”, part of the “Promotoras de salud contra la hipertensión” program. The fotonovela may be integrated in community health worker programs related to controlling blood pressure in Hispanic/Latino communities. Grant Opportunity to Encourage Latinas to Recognize Heart Attacks

"Funding is available for activities and events in support of the Spanish language awareness campaign, “Make The Call. Don’t Miss a Beat”. Building upon the national public awareness begun under this campaign in 2011, the outreach focus of the campaign in 2013 is to encourage Spanish speaking Latinas from across the country over age 50 to recognize the signs and symptoms of a heart attack and to call 911 promptly. Community-based partnerships and collaborations with Hispanic/Latino organizations and entities are strongly encouraged and funding priority will be given to applicants demonstrating these partnerships. Free Diabetes Patient “Videonovela” DVD in Spanish

The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) is offering medical providers with Spanish-speaking type 2 diabetes patients free copies of a DVD of its new Aprende a vivir videonovela. Using telenovela-style drama, Aprende a vivir tells the story of Don Felipe, head of the Jiménez family, and his health problems caused by poor management of his type 2 diabetes The videonovela supports clinicians in getting their Spanish-speaking people type 2 diabetes patients to adhere to their medication, dietary, and exercise instructions.
