"The American Cancer Society and the CO Dept. of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) are partnering on a project that will be offered to clinics to increase breast, cervical and colorectal cancer screening rates.

The purpose of this project is to provide your clinic with a picture of existing cancer screening practices and policies and to assist with sustainable infrastructure building that ensures breast, cervical and colorectal cancer screening guidelines are being followed and your client population receives appropriate care. Below are key highlights and benefits of the Clinical Quality Improvement Partnership Project:

Diabetes Prevention Program in Colorado

"Eighteen sites offer the Diabetes Prevention Program in Colorado, including the YMCA of Metro Denver (720-524-2747). Two insurance plans in Colorado, UnitedHealthCare and Kaiser Permanente, cover the Diabetes Prevention Program for their members.  To find a DPP site near you, please call 1-800-DIABETES or view the sites offering the DPP in Colorado...

Taught by trained lifestyle coaches, this 16-week program includes weekly sessions on nutrition and physical activity, such as how to read food labels, how to develop and maintain a healthy diet, and how to deal with stress without overeating. People who lose just 5 – 7 percent of their body weight (10 to 14 pounds for someone weighing 200 pounds) greatly reduce their risk of developing diabetes. The Diabetes Prevention Program helps them reach this goal by eating healthier and increasing physical activity to a 30 minutes a day, five days a week.

[Lecture] Prevention of Oral Disease

Ms. Andrea Wiseman, RDH is a National Preventive Specialist for 3M ESPE, and brings over 30 years of experience in dentistry to her presentations.  She provides her audience members a thorough review on CaMBRA; protocols for caries risk assessment, and dialog to assist the oral health care provider with patient communication. Audience members will also review fluoride varnishes and have the opportunity for a hands-on application. She will also review the basics of preventive medications, including new technologies, which assist patients in obtaining optimal oral health.
