"Tobacco use remains Colorado’s leading cause of preventable each year. Significant increases in tobacco taxes are a proven way to prevent and reduce tobacco use and have been endorsed as a public health strategy by the U.S. Surgeon General and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The tax — an increase of $1.75 on a pack of cigarettes and a 22% increase on other tobacco products like cigars and chewing tobacco — will raise approximately $315 million annually.
